What can I do to combat excessive perspiration inside my socket?

  1. Use a moisture wicking sock under your prosthetic liner.

  2. Apply unscented antiperspirant to your residual limb at night before bed.

  3. Utilize a Phase Change Material gel liner (PCM), as they have been shown to reduce limb temperature by up to 40%.

  4. Find time during the day to remove your prosthesis and replace wet socks.

What kind of schooling do you need to be an Orthotist/Prosthetist?

ABC certified practitioners have a strong science background that incorporates courses in biology, physics and chemistry as well as formal instruction in biomechanics, kinesiology, pathomechanics, material science and gait analysis. To be certified by ABC under the traditional pathway a practitioner must have completed a bachelor’s degree in orthotics and prosthetics or a bachelor’s degree in another field and have a post-graduate certificate program in orthotics and prosthetics. These stringent educational requirements help ensure quality patient care. The ABC Certificate is the only certificate in orthotics and prosthetics that is recognized by the American Medical Association (AMA).

Will my insurance pay for the orthoses/prosthesis?

Most insurances will pay for prosthetics and orthotics. You can contact your insurance company for complete details. One of our administrative staff can also help you if needed.

Can I see myself what my insurance will cover?

I have a lifetime prescription, why do I need to get a new one?

Prescriptions are good for 1 year from date issued according to Medicare.

Appointments are preferred.

Do I need a prescription?

A prescription is needed for any orthosis or prosthesis delivered and billed to an insurance company.

How long do I have to wear the orthosis?

It is up to your physican and depends on your diagnosis.

What type of shoes can I wear?

Nearly any type of flat soled lace up shoe is with removable inlay will work. Tennis shoes with a removable inlay are ideal.
