Clark & Associates to host 4th annual adaptive ski event Sunday, February 21

Waterloo, Iowa (February 16) – Clark & Associates’ fourth annual Winter Fun on the Slopes adaptive ski event has been set for Sunday, Feb. 21 at Sundown Mountain Ski Resort in Dubuque, Iowa. This event was rescheduled from the original Jan. 31 date.

This event is free for those with disabilities and special needs and will include all equipment and lift passes. Family and friends wishing to participate will be responsible for applicable fees.

Marcus Thurm plans to participate in the annual event for the second year. Thurm said he is excited because it is a great event that allows him to ski with the support he needs to do it safely. Prior to last year’s special event, Thurm said he hadn’t hit the slopes in over four years.

When it comes to others thinking about participating, Thurm said, “Give it a try. It’s a lot of fun. There is definitely a learning curve involved with skiing, but once you get the basics, it is really a fun activity to do during the winter.

This event will be led by certified ski instructors with a 2-to-1 instructor to student ratio in three sessions; 9:30-11:30 a.m. 12:00-2:00 p.m. and 2:00-4:00 p.m. Reservations are full, but spectators are welcome.

“Our mission is to provide rehabilitative services, programs, and experiences to those with disabilities,” said Andy Steele, managing partner of Clark & Associates. “This annual event provides skiing and snowboarding experiences which is something everyone should have a chance to enjoy. It’s a very gratifying event, and we are happy to bring this to the area.”

Skiers visiting the resort will notice many pandemic-safety precautions in place such as face mask requirements, social distancing reminders, more stringent cleaning, touchless payment options, and limits on the numbers of visitors in the resorts, restaurants, and other open areas. Pre-purchased tickets will be available outside to avoid in-person transactions.

The Winter Fun on the Slopes Adaptive event is full, but spectators are welcome. To get more information, contact Chad Remmert at cremmert@clarkpo.com. Participant safety is the most important focus of the event, but having fun is also encouraged.

The Register’s Annual Great Bicycle Ride Across Iowa

Des Moines, Iowa (July 19, 2019) – Prosthetic patients and staff members of Clark & Associates are excited to be participating in The Register’s Annual Great Bicycle Ride Across Iowa (RAGBRAI) on Tuesday, July 23.

Clark & Associates members say they are excited to participate in such a prestigious tradition where staff members will get to be a part of not only an important event held in Iowa every year, but for several prosthetic patients to hit the road, gain confidence and enjoy themselves.
Riding one day in the seven-day event, Clark & Associates will be represented by four amputees, a rehab physician, a physical therapist and two certified prosthetists. The group will ride a total of 40 miles.

“Our patients and staff work hard to overcome obstacles and be the best version of themselves,” said Andy Steele, managing partner of Clark & Associates. “This annual race and tradition in Iowa is a perfect step forward. Accomplishing a ride like this proves that amputees can return to a level of activity they had before. They walk, hike, run and, in this case, bicycle nearly 500 miles. Being active is great for the body and mind.”

RAGBRAI is an annual seven-day bicycle ride across the state. Heading into its 47th year, RAGBRAI is the oldest, largest and longest recreational bicycle touring event in the world.

For those who have never ridden, this rolling celebration of Iowa attracts participants from all 50 states and many foreign countries. It has covered thousands of miles through the years, and hundreds of thousands of riders have participated.
