It’s Beginning to Feel Like Fall

October has long been known as a month for harvesting crops, beautiful fall leaves and trick or treating.   More recently October has evolved into the month where we place special attention on breast cancer awareness.  Events across the country allow us to rally around those who currently battle the disease, while remembering those who have been lost.  This month’s newsletter is packed with material related to breast cancer awareness.  Additionally, we introduce you to a new team member and provide you with the details of our completed construction project in Waterloo.

A Team Approach to Defeating Breast Cancer

When Zona Standiford received the news that she had been diagnosed with breast cancer in March of 1993, she knew she would face tremendous challenges both mentally and physically.  From enduring a total mastectomy on the right side, to weekly chemotherapy sessions, Zona met each challenge along her journey head on.  Though many days were tough, she met each one with great persistence, and she was able to defeat the cancer.  We’re glad to report that Zona has been cancer-free for 23 years.zona-standiford-picture

While Zona’s story reflects an individual’s ability to overcome life and death circumstances, she credits much of her success to her support group.  From her two daughters who provided the compassion to keep her spirits up, to the quality medical professionals who guided her treatment, Zona, like many breast cancer patients, utilized a team approach to defeating the disease.

Another important member of Zona’s team has been Jill at Hope from Jillian’s.  For the past 18 years, Jill has provided Zona with many post-mastectomy items that have helped her to regain a sense of normalcy.  Said Zona, “Jill is a great listener, with the ability to provide exactly what I ask for.  She always has a smile on her face and works hard to attain the best possible fit.”

Zona has no plans of slowing down any time soon.  She spends six months every year in Florida enjoying the warm temperatures of the Sunshine State.  Zona is an active walker and really enjoys swimming for additional exercise.  We appreciate Zona sharing her story and wish her all the best.

    Waterloo Office Remodel Completed

    cimg1021

In September we informed you that our Waterloo office location was moving through the final phases of an extensive remodeling project.  We are pleased to announce that our construction project has been completed, allowing patients and employees to enjoy the new updates.  Steve Husome, Director of Operations at Clark & Associates, who spear-headed the project, is very pleased with the final result.  “It had been 18 years since any updates had been made to the interior of the facility.  The remodeling improvements that we have made will improve patient flow and provide shorter walking distances between the reception area and the patient rooms.  The new floor coverings and updated paint were much needed and the feedback from our patients with regard to the interior changes has been very positive.”  For patients who utilize our Waterloo office, we hope you enjoy the new improvements.

Everyone at Clark & Associates would like to extend a warm welcome to our newest team member, Tonya Hartmann.  Tonya was hired in mid-August and serves as an administrative assistant in our Waterloo office.  Her position encompasses a great deal of responsibility as she is tasked with patient check-in/out, scheduling appointments, answering phone calls and assisting with the documentation process.  Tonya takes pride in insuring that our patients have a pleasant experience from the minute they walk through our doors.

When asked what she likes best about working at Clark and Associates, she said, “The people!!  I love that everyone cares about what they are doing and are willing to help out whenever needed.  I truly enjoy working with the patients, they make me smile everyday.”

When not at work, Tonya enjoys spending time outside enjoying summer activities like golf, and gardening.  Other interests include traveling, cooking and spending time with her nieces and nephew.

Tonya is a great addition to our administrative team – Welcome Aboard!
